Black Victim of Slasher Attack Arrested

Fitz Fullerton
Madman Maksim Gelman, who is charged with killing four people after going on a day-long rampage that included stabbings, carjackings and hit-and-runs was caught in Times Square.  During the bloody rampage, suspect Maksim Gelman jumps into livery driver Fitz Fullerton's cab.  Gelman put a knife to his throat and told him to drive.  Fullerton grabbed the knife and a struggle began.  "I just took it off the neck and turn around and started wrestling.  I couldn't even think about a cut.  I just started wrestling with the knife," Fullerton said.

Well after Gelman fled, Fullerton called 911.  And maybe in your mind  your thinking the cops showed up at the hospital to question him about the attack.  Or maybe they're showing up to wish him a speedy recovery.  Unfortunately, none of that was the case.  The cops showed up to question him about a ticket he received 10 years ago.  They then cuffed him to the bed.  And after being taken to the station, he was taken to a communal holding cell, where he was forced to stand for most of the 10 hours he was held there.  He wasn't given any medication, although a police officer gave him tea later in the day.  Although police say he was arrested for a warrant stemming from a family court matter in 2001, Fullerton is reported as saying that he was arrested for an outstanding parking ticket.

Do you think that if he were a White man who was slashed in the face, hand and neck and escaped with his life, that he would have been treated this way?  Or do you think this type of thing happens everyday regardless of race?

In our opinion, we say to Mr. Fullerton, "It's Because You're Black".
